Aníbal Troilo: Mucho más que El Bandoneón Mayor de Buenos Aires
Hoy que estoy en el debe de la vida, sigo teniendo la misma devoción por la vida y la obra de Aníbal Troilo como cuando era pibe, cuando consumía todo lo relacionado al entrañable bandoneón mayor de Buenos Aires.
Allá por el año 1986 en el mítico Bar El Progreso del porteñisimo barrio de Barracas, le pregunté al cantor Jorge Casal (un tipo callado, reservado, frío como un bufoso) cómo era Troilo y me dijo algo que me quedó grabado para siempre: “pensa en todo lo que significa la palabra amistad….eso era Pichuco”.
Aníbal Troilo nació el 11 de julio de 1914, en la calle Cabrera 2937, entre Anchorena y Laprida, es decir, en pleno barrio del Abasto, aunque se crió en Palermo.
Pichuco fue un pibe futbolero, fanático de River, que jugaba de “centrojás” (el 5 argentino) en su club de barrio, el Regional Palermo, y descubrió el fueye durante esas correrías infantiles, sonando en los rincones penumbrosos de los bares cercanos.
Pichuco fue al tango, como bandoneonista, lo que Carlos Gardel a la interpretación cantada.
Su primera actuación “profesional” fue animando películas mudas en el cine Petit Colón.
Entre 1925 y 1930 participó en varias agrupaciones: en un trío junto con Miguel Nijensohn y Domingo Sapia; en un quinteto (como director) en el cine Palace Medrano; en el conjunto de Alfredo Gobbi (h) y en la formación de Juan Maglio “Pacho” como segundo bandoneón.
En 1930 integró el sexteto Vardaro-Pugliese integrado nada más y nada menos que por Elvino Vardaro y Alfredo Gobbi en violines, Osvaldo Pugliese en piano, Sebastián Alesso en contrabajo y Miguel Jurado junto con Troilo en bandoneones
También pasó por el conjunto “Los Provincianos” (1931), La Orquesta Típica Victor (1931), La Orquesta Sinfónica de Julio De Caro (1932), Elvino Vardaro (1933), Angel D´Agostino (1934), Juan D´Arienzo (1935), Alfredo Attadia (1935), Cuarteto del 900 (1936) y Juan Carlos Cobián (1937).
Pichuco tenía devoción y gran cariño por Juan Carlos Cobian, además de compartir la misma fascinación por la bohemia y la noche.
Anibal Troilo debutó con su Orquesta Típica el 1° de julio de 1937 siendo su cantante Francisco Florentino, que también se hizo cargo del vestuario del conjunto dada su experiencia previa en el oficio de sastre.
En la entrada del Cabaret Marabú (Maipú 359) había un cartel que decía: “Todo el mundo al Marabú/ la boite de más alto rango/ donde Pichuco y su orquesta/ hará bailar buenos tangos “.
Siempre tuvo cantantes de primera línea, pasaron por su orquesta: Francisco Fiorentino, Amadeo Mandarino, Alberto Marino, Floreal Ruiz, Edmundo Rivero, Aldo Calderón (la mejor media voz de la historia del tango), Jorge Casal, Raúl Berón, Carlos Olmedo, Pablo Lozano, Roberto Goyeneche, Angel Cárdenas, Elba Berón, Roberto Rufino, Nelly Vázquez, Tito Reyes y el bahiense Roberto Achával.
En 1953, Aníbal Troilo era un artista exclusivo del sello Odeón. Por lo tanto, sus contratantes no le permitían grabar el disco de “Patio mío”, el tema principal de “El patio de la Morocha” (el querido Gordo en escena personificó a Eduardo Arolas). Pichuco sintió que no podía estar ausente y, finalmente, tocó en la grabación con Aída Luz aunque, lógicamente, nunca figuró en los créditos, que consignaron: “Orquesta típica”. Todo tanguero que se precie podrá distinguir el sonido de su fueye en esa grabación.
En referencia a su carrera como compositor quedaron 64 composiciones entre tangos, valses y milongas; tuvo muchos éxitos entre los que mencionaremos: “Barrio de Tango” (Letra: Homero Manzi.1942), “Garúa” (Letra: Enrique Cadícamo. 1943), “Sur” (Letra: Homero Manzi.1948), “Che, bandoneón” (Letra: Homero Manzi.1950), “Discepolín” (Letra: Homero Manzi.1951), “Una canción” (Letra: Cátulo Castillo.1953), “La última curda” (Letra: Cátulo Castillo.1956) y “Mi tango triste” (Letra: José Maria Contursi).
La mujer que eligió Pichuco para compartir la vida fue Zita, en realidad, Ida Dudui Kalacci, que había nacido en Grecia pero era tan porteña como el tango y era de esa estirpe de mujeres para toda la vida. Con el “gordo” se amaron profundamente.
A Zita le tocaba tratar de apaciguar los demonios que habitaban en el músico, controlar los excesos: el juego, la bebida, la comida y también los de bondad y generosidad.
Troilo fue un burrero empedernido. Hasta que un día Zita lo convenció de que no jugara más. Cuando le preguntaban, el Gordo decía: “Ya no van más, los pingos. ¡Pensar que antes hasta me jugaba los boletos del colectivo!”.
Alguna vez, ese trabajador de la emoción que fue Julián Centeya lo bautizó como “El bandoneón mayor de Buenos Aires”.
Admiraba profundamente a Carlos Gardel solía decir “El morocho del Abasto era un superdotado: tenía rostro, figura, talento, simpatía y una voz fuera de serie”.
Contaba el cantor Roberto Rufino: “Una noche nos reunimos varios amigos con Aníbal para comer y después fuimos a un bar. La intención era tomar café. Sin embargo, junto con el café se fueron descorchando tantas botellas que todos teníamos una alegría bárbara. Por ahí, me puse a cantar sin imaginarme que toda la festichola terminaría con la llegada de la cana. Como no sirvió ninguno de los muchos —y repetidos— argumentos que intentamos, nos llevaron a la comisaría decimotercera, y de allí al Departamento de Policía. Mientras estábamos allí, al Gordo se le ocurrió preguntarle a un amigo: “Escúchame, ¿a quién venimos a sacar?” El otro, sin extrañarse, le contestó: “A nadie; los presos somos nosotros”.
Así hablaba de la “Reina del Plata”: “De Buenos Aires tendría que decir muchas cosas… Que es mi vida, que es el tango, que es Gardel, que es la noche… Que es la mujer, el amigo… Tendría que decir muchas cosas y muchas no sabría cómo decirlas… Pero anote esto: agradezco haber nacido en Buenos Aires.”
Pichuco prefería el whisky nacional Old Smuggler y le fascinaba el queso cheddar en dados con aceite de oliva, pimienta y pimentón.
El último cantor de la orquesta de Anibal Troilo fue el bahiense Roberto Achával, actuaron en el El Bulín de la calle Ayacucho, en el legendario Viejo Almacén y en el espectáculo “Simplemente Pichuco” en el teatro Odeón, que estaba situado en la calle Esmeralda, casi esquina Corrientes.
“Cuando la muerte venga la voy a recibir con los brazos abiertos, como siempre recibí a mis amigos”, declaró, cuando ya presentía el encuentro impostergable.
Anibal Troilo falleció una fría noche del 18 de mayo de 1975.
Troilo visitó en varias oportunidades la ciudad, es más, la icónica foto con Atahualpa Yupanqui fue sacada en los estudios de Lu2 AM 840, por el reconocido fotógrafo local Omar Morán.
Para finalizar, relataré una anécdota que me contó una veterana enfermera del Hospital Municipal de Bahía Blanca. Estando el bandoneonista Luis Bonnat muy enfermo e internado en dicho hospital, una madrugada aparece Aníbal Troilo, pregunta por Bonnat y ella lo acompaña hasta la habitación. Los dos bandoneonistas conversaron largamente delante de ella. Al irse, Troilo deja en el cajón de la mesa de luz una gran cantidad de dinero y, agarrándola del brazo, le dice al oído: “Esto es para que cuiden bien a mi amigo”.
