El heredero de la leyenda

El apellido Magaldi me es familiar desde la niñez. Mi padre es fanático de La voz sentimental de Buenos Aires y yo, con el tiempo y habiéndome interiorizado profundamente en la historia del genero, lo considero un personaje fundamental del mismo. La vida me regaló la posibilidad de tratar mucho a su hijo Agustín.
El único hijo del matrimonio de Don Agustín y la riocuartense “Lolita” Miserendino nació el 10 de septiembre de 1932 en la ciudad de Buenos Aires, vivían en calle Artigas 262 del Barrio de Flores.
Luchó desde su adolescencia por abrirse un camino propio bajo la enorme sombra de su padre, al que muchos tangueros de ley comparan con el zorzal Criollo, Carlos Gardel.
Pero Agustín Magaldi hijo logró remontar su nombre, más allá de las inevitables comparaciones, y concretó en vida una sólida trayectoria artística. Es, quizás, uno de los pocos casos de hijos que siguen la carrera de sus padres en que no fue sólo el apellido el que sostenía su fama, sino sus propias aptitudes artísticas.
Fue actor y cantante. Realizó muy buenas grabaciones. Hizo exitosas giras por el exterior, especialmente una muy extensa y con gran éxito por Estados Unidos.
Tenía una mirada franca y una sonrisa cristalina y, por sobre todas las cosas, humildad, típica de los grandes de verdad.
Fue un burrero de ley, compartimos muchas tardes en las míticas arenas de “Molerpa”, junto al flaco Calígula y Jorge Vidal entre otros.
El 27 de noviembre de 1981 Agustín Magaldi hijo contrajo matrimonio con María Isabel Santos, en la parroquia Inmaculado Corazón de María (Viamonte y Pte. Roca de Rosario).
Lo recuerdo de varias cenas en “La Churrasquita” de Av. Corrientes 1220, tras carreras sufridas y festejadas en el hipódromo de Palermo, con Alberto Moran, Tincho Zabala, Vicente Rubino, Roberto Rufino, Juan Carlos Lamas, Alberto Morán , Romualdo Quiroga y Rolando Chávez, entre otros.
Grabó su primer disco el 19 de mayo de 1960, “Triste Destino” con acompañamiento de guitarras, para el sello Odeón,
Fue autor de varios temas (letra y música): la ranchera “Pajarito”, los valses “El maestro de mi vida”, “Amor, no puedo más”, “Madre angelical”, “Inútil corazón” y la canción “Vuelvo a Moscú”, entre otros.
Murió en Rosario el 3 de marzo de 1988 a los 55 años de edad. Sus restos descansan en el Cementerio del Salvador en la ciudad de Rosario.
Don Agustin Magaldi padre había nacido en Rosario, provincia de Santa Fe, el 1º de diciembre de 1898, y fue bautizado en la misma ciudad, el día 27 de febrero de 1899, en la parroquia Santa Rosa de Lima.
A los 18 años ya era un cantor profesional; formó dúos con Héctor Palacios, Nicolás Rossi y en el año 1925 con Pedro Noda, transformándose en uno de los mejores dúos de todos los tiempos. Estuvieron 10 años juntos, hasta que en 1936 Magaldi inicia su carrera como solista acompañado por las guitarras de Centeno, Ortiz, Francini, Carré y el arpa de Félix Pérez Cardozo.
Su color de voz era única, intima, triste y profundamente emotiva, a lo que le sumaba una dicción perfecta. Lo llamaban La voz sentimental de Buenos Aires.
Sus versiones de “Nieve”, “La muchacha del circo”, “Libertad”, “Dios te salve m’hijo”, “Acquaforte”, “Berretín”, “Disfrazado”, “Vagabundo”, “Levantá la Frente”, “No quiero verte llorar” y “Consejo de oro” son magistrales, verdaderas joyas del genero.
Magaldi fue el cantor preferido de los mas pobres y desprotegidos; era muy popular e idolatrado en el interior del país.
Agustín Magaldi murió a la edad de 39 años, una operación de vesícula en el Sanatorio Otamendi se complicó y lo llevó a la inmortalidad el 8 de septiembre de 1938. Fue enterrado en el Cementerio de la Chacarita en Buenos Aires. Una multitud lo lloró y acompañó hasta su última morada.

El biógrafo de Magaldi, Gustavo López Caballin refiere que el cantor actuó varias veces en esta ciudad entre ellas, del 19 al 24 de agosto de 1931 en el Grand Splendid,ubicado en Alsina 129, junto a Pedro Noda y los guitarristas Diego Centeno y Juan Epumer. También el prestigioso historiador relata que Magaldi brindó un show en la cárcel de Villa Floresta y que a pedido de los reclusos interpretó su clásico “El Penado 14” emocionando hasta las lágrimas a todos los presentes.
En el año 1936 Magaldi como solista, acompañado por las guitarras de Diego Centeno,Alberto Ortiz, Jose Amendolari Francini, Juan Luis Carrettini (Carré) y el arpa de Félix Pérez Cardozo se presenta los días 24(dos funciones) y 27 de agosto en el Palacio del Cine que estaba Chiclana 174, y el dia 25 en el el cine Jockey Club de Ingeniero White
