ES UNA FIJA: GARDEL EL CANTOR DE TANGOS MÁS IMPORTANTE DE LA HISTORIA

Pasaron 86 inviernos de la partida del Morocho, y sigue eterno en el alma popular, la voz invicta, la sonrisa grande, entradora y canchera, siendo el continuo sinónimo de “mejor”.
Desde chico se inclinó por la música, fue el payador José Betinotti, quien lo bautizó “El Zorzal Criollo”.
Para la cátedra, Carlos Gardel nació en el Hospital de Saint Joseph de la Grave Toulouse, una hermosa ciudad del sur de Francia, el 11 de diciembre de 1890. Hijo de padre desconocido y Berta Gardes -quien le dio su apellido- fue bautizado Charles Romuald Gardes.

En el año 1893 arribó al puerto de Buenos aires, afincándose en el popular barrio del Abasto.
En 1917 protagonizó “Flor de durazno”, un largometraje mudo, dirigido por Francisco Defilippis Novoa.
Formó dúo con José Razzano hasta el año 1925, cuando el oriental debe dejar de cantar por una afección en las cuerdas vocales y se convierte en el representante de Gardel.
En 1927 se produjo su rotunda consagración en Europa, cosechando enorme éxito en ciudades como Madrid, Barcelona y París.
Entre el 23 de octubre y el 3 de noviembre de 1930, Carlos Gardel filmó quince cortos musicales, precursores de los actuales “videoclips”, dirigidos por Don Eduardo Morera y estrenados el 3 de mayo de 1931 en el cine Astral, sito en la Corrientes 1641 de Buenos Aires, bajo el rubro de “Variedad musical”, acompañando la exhibición de la película “Luces de la ciudad” de Charles Chaplin. Estas películas fueron las primeras realizadas en los “Estudios Valle”, en la calle México 832, propiedad del empresario de cine Federico Valle.
Entre septiembre y noviembre de 1932 filma para la Paramount francesa en la ciudad de Joinville “Esperame” y, junto a Imperio Argentina, “La casa es seria” y “Melodía de arrabal”. Para estas películas comenzó a trabajar, junto a Gardel, el exquisito poeta Alfredo Le Pera y es entonces cuando nacen sus primeros tangos juntos: “Melodía de arrabal”, “Silencio”, “Me da pena confesarlo”, entre otros.
Su última grabación en Buenos Aires fue el 6 de noviembre de 1933, cuando registra “Madame Ivonne”, de Eduardo Pereyra y Enrique Cadícamo. Al día siguiente, parte sin saber que ya no volvería a pisar tierra gaucha.

Gardel en Bahía

Carlos Gardel actuó en Bahía Blanca en cinco oportunidades. La primera en 1913; integrando el dúo con José Razzano lo hizo en 1918 y 1924 en el Teatro Municipal y en el Palace Theatre (Brown 162); y, como solista, en 1930 y 1933, en la sala del Palacio del Cine (Chiclana 174), alojándose en el hotel Muñiz en ocasión de sus últimas presentaciones en nuestra ciudad.
Después de nueve años en la vereda del Hotel Muñiz (O’Higgins 23), desde el 26 de marzo de 2021 la escultura que lo recuerda, restaurada por Andrés Fortunato, se encuentra en el mítico Café Bar Miravalles, sitio que el cantante visitó en mayo de 1933.

Gardel era un apasionado de los “burros”. Fue propietario de varios caballos, el más famoso fue Lunático (un alazán tostado nacido en el haras balcarceño “Ojo de Agua” el 25 de septiembre de 1922, hijo de “Saint Emilión” y “Golden Moon”, lo corría Irineo Leguizamo). Otros pingos de su propiedad fueron: La Pastora, Amargura, Cancionero, Theresa, Explotó, Mocoroa y Guitarrista.
La muerte agazapada lo estaba esperando en la bella Medellín; un accidente aéreo terminó con su vida el 24 de junio de 1935. En ese accidente también murieron los guitarristas Guillermo Barbieri y Ángel Domingo Riverol (que murió a causa de las heridas dos días después).
El funeral de Gardel, en febrero de 1936, fue un homenaje conmovedor. Una multitud asistió al velatorio en el Luna Park y acompañó el cortejo fúnebre hasta el cementerio de la Chacarita.
Quien mejor describió la muerte de Gardel, a mi criterio, fue el poeta Raúl González Tuñón: “El pueblo lo lloraba, y cuando el pueblo llora, que nadie diga nada, porque está todo dicho”.
